FAQ's

How should my 100 Series be outfitted?

First off, this is probably the best reason to attend this event. With the exception of one trail (Poughkeepsie Gulch), a completely stock 100 Series can explore all of the trails that we will be organizing with relative ease. However, the most important recommendation (a strong recommendation) is to upgrade the tires on your rig. The All Terrain variety would be an excellent upgrade to handle the various rock, shale, and possible low traction situations. As far as recovery equipment, if needed, there will be quite a few attendees with equipment to help out in difficult situations. Of course there is the assumption that all drivers will follow basic safety rules and use common sense on the trail.

This event is a great place to figure out what you might want to add to your vehicle in the future and see plenty of lightly to fully kitted 100 Series.

Do I need a CB or HAM radio, or both?

Yes, yes, and yes.  If you have them, bring them.  At the bare minimum, bring a working CB.  Preferably, one you actually have out of the box and connected to your truck.  You will miss out on a lot of really great 'chatter' on the trails without one.  Also, they come in handy to let others on the trail know of issues that everyone may not see. It is a bit of a bummer to see someone without a CB, unfortunately, it really disconnects you from the group.  Another great part of HIH is that there are a few likely participants that really understand HAM and may be able to give you some good tips and tricks to maximize it's usefulness for you.

Is this event family friendly?

Yes, 100s in the Hills is friendly to anyone that you can fit in your rig. From small kids, to teens, and everyone in between. Everyone is welcome and will have a great time. Each day we will return to base camp after the day on the trails making this event conducive those who do not have a lot of remote camping/outdoor experience.

Are dogs welcome?

Short answer, yes. Longer answer, please be respectful and bring dogs that get along with other dogs and have experience in group settings (around small children). Dealing with dog issues will not be fun for anyone.

Is this trip worth a 3,000 mile drive?

According to the feedback from last year, yes. We had attendees from as far away as the east coast,  from the south and everywhere in between. The scenery alone is worth the trip. Add to that the ability to meet some new friends, possibly score a raffle item, and discuss 100 Series topics somewhere besides behind the keyboard (MUD guys). If you are on the fence, check out some pictures and read the trail reports from the first 5 HIH events. We do not think you will regret this.

What does the registration fee get me?

You will get several things. First, your registration fee covers all necessary permits for the campground/trails and allows you to choose which trails you'd like to run each day. There are assigned trail leaders that are familiar with the area and will be available to assist wherever needed. Also, you will receive one of the 6th Annual 100s in the Hills T-shirts  (you will be able to purchase additional shirts for your whole crew with your registration). Additionally, you will get various swag items from sponsors, tickets to the free raffle and a few surprise freebie's. As always, there will be surprises for the kids as well! Standard housekeeping items will also be provided at the event. (hand sanitizer, wipes, potty shelters) Thank you for understanding that a lot of time, coordination, and care go into the 100s in the Hills event. This event is meant to cultivate the relationships between 100 Series owners, vendors and the great outdoors. Enjoy!!
